My Surgery Update | ||||||
Hi everyone, Thank you all for your prayers, well-wishes, white light and cards! Thought you might like to see some pictures of this amazing cancer recovery experience. I am now gratefully back to doing my healing work! January, 2011

I had asked my dermatologists about some unusual looking moles on my arms about a year ago. They looked at them carefully with their special magnifying glass. One was a benign nevus and the other was what they called a barnacle. They said the moles were nothing to worry about and froze them off with liquid nitrogen, a process called cryotherapy. The doctor told me the barnacle in particular would probably come back. When the benign nevus on my left arm mole came back, my intuition told me that I needed to get an appointment very quickly. The doctors still weren't concerned, but the head of the dermatology department did a biopsy on both areas just in case. (And thank you so much, Dr. Miller. I'm grateful you did!)

1) My left hand biopsy -- the mole was smaller than a pencil eraser and didn't look like cancer, and especially not melanoma. They said it was probably a hemangioma (blood vessels which are typically benign)
2) My right hand biopsy -- it was just a "barnacle", light brown in color.
When I got the call back from the head of dermatology a week later, he asked if I could come in the very next day. He told me of the news of second stage melanoma and recommended we do surgery right away. My first thought was "wow, I've spent so much time (and classes) working on being happy; well, I guess I'll choose to continue to be happy!"

Mac started doing a ton of research. We both went on an anti-cancer diet (he's the main food preparer in the house and decided we should both get extra healthy) -- lots of raw, fresh veggies and fruit and some quality protein. Mac is now less weight than he's been in 30 years! The cancer was a wake-up call for us both! We did lots of meditations and visualizations, doing what we could emotionally and physically to rid my body of cancer. Surgery was scheduled, and I wanted to be super charged and ready for it.
3) This is my meal at Soup Plantation. It's not organic, but I love all the colors and my body is very happy with meals such as these!
So, now we're at the hospital, at Kaiser Zion (Nov. 4, 2010):
4) Nuclear medicine. A doctor shot a blue dye with radiation in 4 locations around each mole. Then they wait until the dye reaches the sentinel lymph nodes. It's not that I wanted to have radiation, but it's the best way western medicine has right now in doing the least invasive procedure, helping to take out the least amount of lymph nodes necessary.

5) How adorable are these socks? And purple to boot! The red and beige things on my legs are like mini-massagers, keeping my circulation going. Almost like going to a spa!

6) My absolutely wonderful surgeon. I have complete confidence in her! Very competent and delightful. Notice the interesting vacuum tube on my left arm -- they're pumping warm air into my light purple space suit.

7) My new bandages covering over 6" of stitches on each arm. Quite a big procedure for some little moles!
8) Get well wishes from wonderful friends!
Special thanks to: Joanne Edmondson (healing touch practitioner extraordinaire) who stayed with me on surgery day, from before 9 am until after 10 pm, adding angelic light and protection to my experience! Rhonda Luebs (massage therapist), whose special healing hands helped to reduce my swelling and made the recovery process clearly much faster.
"I'm rejoicing in being alive, getting more into spirituality and metaphysics, and staying healthy and happy! Looking forward to an absolutely awesome 2011!"
