"I consider myself a "massage connoisseur". I've worked with at least 30 massage therapists in the past, and what impresses me most is each time Rachael works on me, she uses unique techniques that I've never had." -- David Bergquist, I.T. Consultant

Rachael has taken an array of courses in massage therapy since 1977. She became a Holistic Health Practitioner (1,000 hours of training) at the School of Healing Arts in San Diego and is nationally certified. Courses have included neuromuscular, deep tissue, passive joint, PNF stretching, trigger point, tui-na, cranio-sacral, energy balancing, Thai massage, Healing Touch, and more.

Some of her many experiences included working at a day spa and for 2 different chiropractic offices. While working at the chiropractor's, she asked to work on their toughest patients, working on issues such as fused vertebrae, migraines, fibromyalgia and chronic pain.

energy light rays

Rachael uses 2 main philosophies when doing her custom designed massages.

The first compares a moving stream with a stagnant stream.

custom designed massages myofascial release techniques

As long as you have a moving stream, you can see the stones in the moving water and they look clear. But when you have twigs and branches in the way, the water gets stagnant and murky. The rocks can get algae and moss on them. The same applies in the body.

Tight muscles and muscle knots are like those twigs and branches. When your system is stagnant, you have many more aches and pains. Energy doesn't flow. And you're not able to take a complete breath. The blood can't flow properly, thus the nutrients can't be delivered as well to the cells.

healing massages

The second is explained best using an analogy of a bow and arrow.

massage mastery bow

The body works like a bow and arrow (because of the fascia). When you pull the string back, the bow arches. Where the bow's tension is greatest, you will find the most stress on or around that point. Most therapists work on this point of pain (or where the pain is felt the most), thinking that by working that particular spot, it will resolve the issue.

But, imagine how releasing the tension on the string will relax the bow. Rachael intuitively goes to where the tight "strings" are in your body which are causing you pain, and helps release the tension at the source.

sensitive pain-free listening

If you're looking for significant improvement in how your body feels, then Massage Mastery is definitely the place to go. Rachael is passionate about helping people to have a healthy, pain-free life. She, herself, gets at least one 2-hour massage per week, so you know that she views massage as a healthy insurance plan!

"I had some surgery which kept me lying on my back for several weeks; my lower back was screaming in pain. You spent about 45 minutes working on nothing but my lower back and you accommodated me in positioning because I could not lie on my stomach. After that session I got up from the table feeling so much better. By bedtime that night I had no pain in my back anymore and it did not come back! I attribute this healing to more than just massage technique. I believe you to have a special healing ability that just comes through. You are truly an artist and I am grateful to know you and be able to benefit from your talent." -- Kathy Hardman, Certified Mindful Coach
